Meeting Notes for the Park View General
Membership and Volleyball
Meeting of 6/5/01, 7:00
p.m.
All directors attended
Roll call taken; All schools represented, at the start of the meeting, except
St.
Adalbert and St. Paul. St.
Paul has probably withdrawn from the league.
Treasurer’s
report. Volleyball produced a net loss
of $202.00. Basketball
produced a net loss of $2,607.19. The primary reason for this was
the necessity to
hire a consultant, due to Tom Linder’s departure from the
board. The general
league operations had an overall gain of $407.00, due to interest
that was earned,
over and above the general expenses of the league. Lisa
reported that the various
accounts were combined into a single account at M&I Bank. There
currently is a
$15,934 surplus. There were no questions presented for the treasurer.
Request for
new directors. The principal from
Blessed Sacrament was reportedly
interested in the league, and possibly a director slot, but was not
present at the
meeting. No other people volunteered. The current board was
reappointed. We
are currently looking for new members, and it was requested
that anyone
interested contact Dennis.
Discussion about admission
prices at league games. Current maximums are:
adults $1.00, high school students $.50, grade school $.25. There
was discussion,
and a proposal to raise the maximum entry fees to $1.50 for
adults, $1.00 for
seniors and high school students, and $.50 for grade school and
under. A vote
was taken, there were 10 in favor, 4 against, and 2 abstained.
Motion passed to
set the maximum fees as stated above. Schools are under no
obligation to charge
the maximum.
There was an explanation of the
rescission of the Parkview rule concerning
students from certain non-catholic schools playing for Parkview
league teams.
The rule provided that if the
school the student attended was a member of another
catholic sanctioned league, the student was not eligible to play
for a Parkview
team. The student would not have the option of choosing either
their school team
or a Parkview team. While the rule was in existence at
Parkview for many years,
it was only used in the very recent past, including twice
last year. While the rule
was at odds with a current Archdiocesan rule, the Archdiocese
allowed Parkview
to retain and enforce the rule, with a request that we
reconsider retaining the rule
this year. Since that time, the two strongest supporters of
this rule are no longer
on the board. The directors took a vote, and it was the
unanimous vote of the
board that the rule should be rescinded. That is, students who
attend non-catholic
schools, for example, Brookfield Academy, would be allowed to
participate on
teams in the Parkview League. However, the students would still
be subject to
other rules, including the transfer rule, which would prohibit
the student from
switching between the teams. The students would not be allowed to
simultaneously participate on both teams. The student must be active in
the CCD
program of the parish in the Parkview League.
Dennis advised that there were
suspensions sent to the following schools,
concerning coaches, players, or fans: Blessed Sacrament; St. Romans;
Sacred
Heart of
Jesus; St. Matthias; St. Leonard’s.
Schools will be getting letters on each
of these matters.
Neil Witt had asked that all members
pick up trophies promptly, so that our
supplier does not end up storing the many boxes at her small
facility.
Other league
matters. There was discussion of moving
teams up and down, from
one division to another. There was some discussion of exceptions
being made to
the general rules on assigning teams to divisions, but this
would be on a case-bycase
basis, and would be looked at by the board very carefully.
General meeting concluded.
Volleyball meeting began
At the
volleyball meeting, Catholic West, Tri Catholic, St. Matthews and St.
Martin of Tours were also present.
Tentative team commitments were
taken.
Norm has a new phone number, and
a new e-mail address. Do not use the
Children’s
hospital e-mail. The number and e-mail
address is listed in each
school’s packet of information
Norm requested that all scores
be reported by email to keiths@execpc.com
Further, score sheets should be
mailed to Norm by the Monday following each
weekend’s games.
Roger is still looking for refs.
His phone number is listed in the handouts. Noncertified
refs are paid $13.00 per match. Certified refs are paid $16.00
per match.
18 years of age and older can be
certified. 16 years of age and over can ref, and
they will be provided training.
Norm issued a reminder to coordinators
to make sure that their scorekeepers don’t
change sides on the score sheets, when the teams change sides on
the floor.
In the gym packet, gyms should
be listing emergency contacts on that form.
Standings will be on the
Parkview site www.execpc.com/stgregsports
Pertinent dates are as follows:
o
July 31, 2001 money due, $160.00 per
team. Coaches listing sheet due.
Gym availability sheets due. Any
special requests for scheduling must be
made in writing at that time. Norm would try to accommodate
teams, but
no guarantees because of the short season.
o August 27, 2001, schedules ready.
o September 1, 2001, rosters due.
o September 8-October 28, the season.
Rosters must be signed by the
athletic director, principal, and CCD director, if
there are CCD children participating on a team.
Coaches need to leave the lineup
at the scorer’s table at the beginning of each
game. Not just for the scorer to copy, but it should be left
there during the game.
The high school rules, which
Parkview uses, have changed. Players can be
substituted an unlimited number of times (previously, there was a
three time
limit). However, teams can substitute a maximum of eighteen
times per game.
If anyone has tournament
information, send that to Norm before July 31, and he
will distribute with the schedules.
There is a coach’s certification
clinic on August 18, at St. Josephs in Wauwatosa.
St. Alphonsus
will have a clinic, but that needs to be approved for certification
purposes by the Archdiocese.
Norm received a terrible
response on the three hit awards. Norm called fifteen
coaches and had difficulty contacting them, which ultimately
delayed the ordering
of trophies. The concept of the three hit award was almost
unanimously favored
by the coordinators. This year it will be up to the
coordinators to collect the three
hit votes from each of the coaches, and call them into Norm.
Coaches can vote
for anyone other than the 1st and 2nd place
teams. And it only applies to 5th
and 6th
grade. If the teams are not voting or responding, this probably
will be
discontinued next year.
